Bicycle Frame Tubing and Maintenance

  • Release time: 2026-01-26

The components of a bicycle are designed and assembled with very clear purposes. The principles and detailed aspects related to them have become a subject of study. However, there are fixed standards that suit it perfectly. If it doesn't suit you, no matter how good the components are, they won't be able to perform their original functions. Let's take a look at the bicycle frame tubes and maintenance together!

So, how do you choose the right parts for yourself and assemble the car that suits you?
It's not an exaggeration to say that the frame tube of a bicycle is the soul of the entire vehicle. Many beginners, consciously or unconsciously, neglect the importance of the frame when riding. They consider what kind of XTR toolkit to put on, what level of front fork to choose. After I had no own budget, I just randomly bought a bookshelf. The direct result of this behavior is that the entire bike looks great, but it doesn't work when you get on it. What's the underlying reason? It's that they chose an inappropriate shelf.
Do you know?
- - Is the aluminum frame uncomfortable?
- - Is the titanium frame soft and slippery?
- - The steel frame offers good ride comfort, but will it deform over time?
In fact, all of the above are false.
For a long time, there have been many claims about the material of the frame, but in fact, they are all incorrect. The truth is that as long as you choose the appropriate pipe diameter, the thickness of the pipe wall, and the geometry of the frame, you can use any of the existing frame materials to create a frame that suits your comfort during travel.
Let's roughly discuss the importance of the framework from the following aspects:
Molybdenum steel frame: Before the 1990s, the mainstream material for bicycle frames was chromium-molybdenum steel. It had good torsional and tensile properties, and even at high temperatures during welding, it would not affect the raw material, and the price was low. However, it was very heavy and prone to oxidation. In recent years, new materials that overcome its drawbacks and bring out its advantages have emerged, and the chromium-molybdenum steel frame has once again gained attention.
Carbon frame: Lightweight, capable of absorbing ground impact, with quick material rebound force, etc., it is an ideal material for bicycle frames. The higher the grade and tonnage of carbon fiber, the greater the elasticity and the higher the price. There are several manufacturing methods. For example, apply glue to the mold, overlap carbon fibers, heat treat, solidify, and shape.
Titanium frame: The density of titanium is 55% lower than that of steel and it is not prone to oxidation. To enhance the tensile strength, titanium alloys mixed with aluminum, vanadium, etc. have been developed. The welding is carried out in a vacuum environment, which makes the processing complex and the frame price high.
Aluminum frame: The aluminum frame is lightweight and has high rigidity. A specially processed frame weighs only 1 kilogram. Aluminum tubes are evolving towards larger diameters. To alleviate excessive rigidity, carbon fibers and other materials that absorb impact forces are now widely used on thin plate tubes and forks.
Pre-departure inspection
Check the upright condition of the steering wheel, the fixation of the handle, the crossbar, etc. Carefully rotate the cover of the small parts on the front of the vehicle and adjust the rotation of the bearings. This part will affect the operation of the handle. Practice loading and unloading tires, replenishing tires, and using the tools for loading and unloading wheels. Adjust the shifting conditions of the front and rear transmissions. Firmly turn the left and right cranks. Stand firmly with both feet. If you move the brake lever, will it touch the handle? The installation position of the brake pads. The fixation of the seat pillar. The fixation of the saddle. The tightening condition of the quick lever. (Quick lever) The fixing parts of the front and rear wheels, the seat pillar, something that can be loosened with one rod. The bonding of the racing tires.
The above information covers the bicycle frame tubes and their maintenance and repair. If you want to know more, please feel free to contact us at any time!
